Kathleen Purvis has been a working journalist since 1977. She has been a food editor, columnist and writer since 1989. She is the author of three books, "Pecans" and "Bourbon" in the Savor the South cookbook series from the University of North Carolina Press, and "Distilling The South," also from UNC Press. Her work has also appeared in numerous publications, including Southern Living, Our State magazine, and Garden & Gun. She is currently the president of the Association of Food Journalists, and is a longtime member of the Southern Foodways Alliance. She also recently ended 18 years of service for the James Beard Foundation, including chair of the cookbook awards committee, founding chair of the Leadership Awards, and the liaison for special awards for the awards committee. She lives in Charlotte, N.C., with her husband, an amateur mixologist and graphic designer, and their adult son, a budding amateur mixologist and bookseller .
