David has worked for the Wine & Spirit Education Trust (WSET) for over 25 years in a number of roles. Based in London, he is currently part of a new WSET business development team dedicated to the US market. Over his time with WSET David has seen the organisation grow from a handful of people managing three qualifications to the scale it is today: over 100 employees offering 9 qualifications in 19 languages across 76 countries to over 85,000 candidates a year, an achievement which won WSET a Queen’s Award for Enterprise in International Trade in 2015.
David is a qualified teacher and a Master of Wine. He is part of the faculty that delivers WSET’s Educator Training Program around the world, preparing the teachers in WSET’s network of third-party training providers to deliver courses to WSET’s high standards. Outside WSET, David is a non-executive Director of the UK-based International Wine and Spirit Competition, and has judged in a number of other wine competitions from the USA to Europe to China and Japan. At home, David is a volunteer Director of a community interest company which manages a small nature reserve. He also enjoys cycling in the countryside and by the sea, travelling on Britain’s inland waterways, classical music and cooking.
